Low Battery..!

Dear People,

Tell me what do you do when your phone is getting charged?!

I'll go for a short walk as if I am working out hard...Thinking about the battery percentage!

How do you feel when you misplace your mobile phone that too in silent mode (!) or when it gets drained out or when you get stuck in an out of Network coverage area?

Yes! That Mini panic attack moment...Here is where we all start to experience Nomophobia!

We start our day by entering pin, painting patterns or pressing our phone to prove ourselves to our Smart friend in regular basis. We spend ample time with phones rather than with family. We can’t help missing our digital buddy even at restrooms! And there, red flags of Nomophobia are shown!

It is described as the Fear of being without Mobile phone, a kind of Smart phone Seperation Anxiety. Nomophobia is abbreviated for No-Mobile-Phone Phobia.

The term was coined by the Post Office Commission YouGov, a research organization in 2010. A study reveals that 53% of British Mobile users tend to become anxious when they lose access to their phones.

In US 65% of people sleep with their smart phones and to my surprise 34% of them attend their phone calls even during intimacy…! On the whole 66% of world population has got the symptoms of Nomophobia.

Need and demands for using mobile phones are drastically high during this lockdown. Work from home and online classes has brought us to the next level of Smart phone Dependency.

My grandpa has zero knowledge on his mobile phone yet he demands for it when he goes to bed. It is nothing but the insecurity and fear of getting disconnected.

Insecurity, Lack of Self Control, Low Self Esteem, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), Need for online identity and trauma without phone are some of the causes of Nomophobia.

To Cope Up:

  • Engage more in face to face conversations to balance Screen time.
  • Setting up of  device free zone at home.
  • Switching off non-essential notifications.
  • Try out Tech-break, at least once or twice a month.
  • Get raw connections with beloved circle for a soul talk.
  • Practice Self – control.

You can also evaluate yourself scientifically using NMP-Questionnaire. To be more simple just switch off your Phone for 40mins and introspect! Realize where you are! Set boundaries if needed.

So next time when your phone is getting charged... Charge yourself too!
