Phubbers

Hello there...

Today we'll learn something very interesting,  called PHUBBING ... !

I doubt many of us are not familiar with this term Phubbing, but I am pretty sure that we all have a very good experience doing it.

Phubbing is the act of ignoring one's companion in order to pay attention to one's smart phone or other devices. It is one of the red flag of mobile addiction. The one who Phub is called the phubber. So now we know that we all are very good Phubbers.

The term PHUBBING was coined by McCann in 2012.

Phubbing = Phone + Snubbing

According to the survey by National Opinion Research Center, 60% of people in relationship says that they are not very much satisfied due to the new relationship buster : The Smart phone.

Research shows that the act of Phubbing removed the magic from romantic relationships, damaged interpersonal relationships and contributed to times that made people depressed.

We are all busy checking emails, updating status, scrolling news feed, posting stories on food and challenges, Watching YouTube,Tweeting, enjoying Memes, shopping online, engaged in voice as well as face calls and chatting away in Whats app, Messenger, Hike, Viber etc.,

Ironically smart phones were invented to connect us with other people through social media, It was meant for communication but the poor fact is, it severely disrupts our present- moment in-person relationships.

Phubbing is actually disconnecting us from the reality. It also kills our valuable time and precious moments in life.

To my shock even my Pets Kivi (Cat) and Jimmy (Dog) started to sense that I am Phubbing them... Interesting right...?!

Moreover only after that precious moment had become a memory we realize what we have actually lost.

Causes:

  1. Lack of self control
  2. Fear of missing out
  3. To avoid uncomfortable situation

How to overcome Phubbing:

  • Set a Device- Free zone where family members would leave their gadgets behind. Ex: Meal Time, Bed Time, Evening Snack Time.
  •  Disable non-essential notifications.
  •  Distance yourself from mobile phones by leaving it in different rooms so that it is out of reach.
  •  Celebrate mobile free day with your Family and Friends
  • You can explore and find apps in Play-stores that are helpful in reducing mobile addiction.

Hope this stuff would have enlightened you...!

STOP CHATTING..! START TALKING..!

Yes, Thanks for sharing this message! Just to vibrate with you, let me take this opportunity to share my reflections as well.... the BlogSpot speaks the reality! I do engage in reflecting on this area in my theological studies! Since the moment of birth one is invited to come of our one's comfort zone and make adventurous exploration in order to enlarge one's territory. Thus, one is supposed to be at the frontiers of one's life! To do this, one needs a greater courage to win over one's fear! Unfortunately, as the blessed social media offered that courage to relate to as many as persons as possible virtually and gave a false feeling and satisfaction that one is found in his or her frontiers, the addiction to this virtual reality is found more (one best example could be selfie)! As counsellors, as human beings, if we make one step to help those around us to come out of that fear, then they will come out of themselves (their own fears) and explore new persons and engage in new adventures. Thus the world will continue to exist real rather than virtual!
    Therefore,
Give a hand to come out of fear
See every wand being in frontier!
